Capitals quiz
Name the capital city. Or turn it round: name the country from its capital.
How it works
- Choose a continent, or the whole world, and a mode.
- A wrong answer shows the right one straight away.
- Countries with more than one capital accept each of them.
- At the end, play only the ones you missed.
Why play here
- More than one capital
- Bolivia, South Africa, the Netherlands and a few others have two or three. Any of them is right.
- Old names count
- Kiev for Kyiv, Ulan Bator for Ulaanbaatar, Rangoon is not the capital any more (we tell you why).
- The reverse round
- Name the country from its capital: a different skill, and a harder one.

Questions
Which countries have more than one capital?
South Africa (Pretoria, Cape Town, Bloemfontein), Bolivia (Sucre and La Paz), the Netherlands (Amsterdam; the government sits in The Hague), Eswatini, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and a few others. Each listed one is accepted.
Why is the capital not the biggest city?
Often it isn’t: Canberra, not Sydney; Ottawa, not Toronto; Brasília, not São Paulo; Ankara, not Istanbul. These are the most missed questions.
Is this the capital the quiz expects or the real one?
The real one as of November 2026: Indonesia’s is still Jakarta, Egypt’s is Cairo, Kazakhstan’s is Astana.
